The fact that Flanders has not one but three museums dedicated to cycle racing says much for its position at the epicentre of the sport.<\/p>

The French might have the best-known race with the Tour de France and, according to CyclingRanking<\/strong><\/a>, Italy boasts the most successful professional cyclists, but it\u2019s Flanders where the sport\u2019s heart beats the strongest.<\/p>

De Velodroom<\/h3>

Outside of Belgium, De Velodroom is probably the least known of the three museums after the Centrum Ronde van Vlaanderen<\/strong><\/a> and Koers Museum<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>

It\u2019s based close to the Schorre Recreation Park near Boom and about 12 kilometres south of the centre of Antwerp.<\/p>

The Boom cyclocross and the world-famous Tomorrowland dance festival take place within the Schorre Recreation Park, which itself was created from 75 hectares of reclaimed clay pits. Just three kilometres to the west is the location of the annual Jaarmarktcross<\/strong><\/a> at Niel.<\/p>

As well as all of the cycling memorabilia such as 1,500 jerseys and 40 bikes, there\u2019s a section dedicated to the Apostel-Mampaey family. They became the preeminent velodrome builders after building their first track at Boom in 1907. They went on to build some of the most famous tracks across Europe.<\/p>

De Musette<\/h3>

If you\u2019ve developed a thirst or feel a little peckish after visiting the museum, you can pop into the cycling caf\u00e9 De Musette. They offer a range of hot and cold drinks and dishes.<\/p>

The beer options are a bit limited but do include the Kwaremont, Duvel, Duvel 666 and La Trappe Tripel. The Croque Velo and Tapas tour De Musette give a nod to the cycling connection.<\/p>

De Musette is open Friday and Saturday (12:00 - 20:00) and Sunday (10:00 - 20:00).<\/p>

Koersvrouw<\/h3>

From 25 March 2023 through to 12 November 2023, De Velodroom is hosting an exhibition dedicated to Belgium\u2019s women racing cyclists.<\/p>

The Koersvrouw (literally \u201crace woman\u201d) pays homage to female cyclists from Yvonne Reynders in the 1960s up to current Belgian superstar Lotte Kopecky.<\/p>

At the exhibition launch, Yvonne Reynders<\/strong><\/a> and friend of Rijden, Ellen van Loy<\/strong><\/a>, were named as ambassadors. Pictured above, Ellen holds the trophy from her victory at the Niels Albert cyclocross race in 2015, held at Boom.<\/p>

\"Image<\/a>Visiting the Museum<\/h3>

The museum and Koersvrouw exhibition are open Saturday and Sunday (13:00 to 17:00). It will cost you a massive \u20ac2 to visit. Children aged 6 to 12 are \u20ac1. Children under six go free.<\/p>

If you want to visit the museum on any other day, drop them an email<\/strong><\/a> to book an appointment. If you arrive by bike, they even sell spare inner tubes and have a repair station.<\/p>
